So What's New?

Last year at around this time...I posted about how I was going to post more on my blog...well that never happened. There are good reasons for it...my photography business has grown very nicely and I've simply been busy. I barely get the time to do a session, edit it, provide the gallery to the client, get photos retouched, post them to social media and move on to the next client. But I miss blogging and I think it serves an important purpose in the life of an artist.

I don't like writing.....that's the problem with a blog for me. I don't like writing. I like to post my photos on my blog but i don't like writing about them or about me or about what I'm doing. I even thought maybe I would make the blog more informational. Like maybe I'll post photos from a session and then explain how I worked...what did I do...what camera settings did I use....how did I retouch...but that doesn't always appeal to me either. So I think I'm going to play it by ear...I will post photos...sometimes I won't say anything about them....sometimes I will.....if I think there is something to learn from them, then maybe I'll explain it. We'll see but I will post!

Some things have changed in my business this year. I still work for Wagner College Theatre by doing all their publicity and shooting their shows. I also do some other work for them like doing their senior showcase photos, and shooting their Summer Intensive Student's headshots.
I morphed into more of a headshot photographer this year and I really like that. I love doing headshots....I like seeing the person I am working with come up with different outfits, different looks, helping them relax into the session and I love seeing the results and hearing afterward that they are getting more calls from their headshots than they are before. I had been staying away from children and family photography for a while but recently had the opportunity to do some of those sessions and found that I missed it....a lot...and so there's that. I am also working for Sundog Theatre doing an after school program where we produce a newspaper for the school and I teach photojournalism to 4th and 5th graders while they fulfill photography assignments for the newspaper....it's very rewarding and fun! So I'm busy!

Here are some photos from this year....just sort of a retrospective! Enjoy!

Headshots, Headshots, Headshots!

So I never thought I would enjoy doing actor head shots......I concentrated on portraits, portraits of children, children, artists, and shooting theatrical events, weddings etc. Then I started doing head shots....a little here, a little there, and lo and behold....I found that I love doing head shots! Who knew!
I love the control, I love the moment when I see the client relax and begin to enjoy the shoot as much as I am, I love being creative about their look and I love seeing the results!

Here is the latest session I did....last week with a beautiful young woman!

I Heart Faces "Black and White" challenge

I'm entering this photo into the iheartfaces.com black and white photo challenge this month!

I took it while my son and I were setting up for a head shot session, he was sitting quietly looking down at a tool I use for setting white balances and I was checking out flash settings....I shot and the flash didn't fire which aggravated me but then later when I uploaded the headshot session this lovely silhouette was there......sometimes these things just happen....

After a little tuning in lightroom and photoshop....I love this photo!

So here I am sitting in my office at home again.....the weather is preventing much activity....and contemplating the power of nature....and how beautiful yet treacherous this snow/ice is.

I have managed to get out during each of the storms except for this one which is just too yucky though perhaps later...I will venture out....

I've gotten some awesome photos very close to home..... even though my fingers were stiff and cold and I was shooting quickly so my camera wouldn't get too wet....

I admire photographers who venture out no matter what the conditions and get photos and my ambition is to do that as well but I don't always do it...so I want to share some of my photos from the past few weeks.

Just sit back and enjoy the beauty of nature!

Well, one of my New Year's resolutions is to blog more frequently and to once more move my website/online shop to another location.
Since the second one is harder I thought I'd start the blog up again, by returning to google blogger which is where I used to have my photography blog!
Of course I have some other more personal resolution which include living a healthier life, exercising more, eating well, spending more time with friends and family, shooting more things for fun, entering more photo contests....blah blah blah blah!

But for now, I'm happy to be blogging again!

Here are some photos I took during the holidays!
